Frequently Asked Questions

Custom Suits, Bespoke Tailoring, and the Process

At Bespoke By CB, we hear the same questions every day — from first-time clients curious about the process to seasoned professionals comparing tailors. Christian Boehm has been answering these questions for over 37 years in Miami, and we have compiled the most important ones here. Whether you are considering your first custom suit or your fiftieth, these answers will help you make confident decisions about your wardrobe.

Custom Suits: Cost, Timeline & Process

How much does a custom suit cost in Miami?

Custom suits at Bespoke By CB start around $1,299 and range upward depending on fabric selection, construction details, and complexity. A fully bespoke suit with premium Italian or English fabric typically falls between $1,500 and $4,000. We are transparent about pricing and respectful of all budgets. We will walk you through every option before you commit. See our pricing page for more details.

How long does a custom suit take to make?

From initial consultation to final delivery, a custom suit from Bespoke By CB typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. This includes your consultation and measurements, fabric selection, pattern drafting, construction by our master tailors, and a fitting where any adjustments are made. Rush timelines are available for weddings and events but might incur a rush fee.

How many measurements do you take?

Bespoke By CB takes 34+ unique body measurements for each client. We are 100% true custom — not made to measure. See what makes us different.

Can a custom suit be altered after delivery?

Yes. Custom suits can be altered after delivery for changes in body size or style preferences within a reasonable amount. Because bespoke garments are built with seam allowances, there is typically room to let out or take in the waist, seat, and sleeves. All adjustments are recorded in your personal profile so future orders reflect your current measurements.

Is a custom suit worth the investment?

For anyone who wears suits regularly — professionals, executives, attorneys, real estate agents, and anyone attending formal events — a custom suit is absolutely worth the investment. The fit is superior, the comfort is unmatched, the fabric quality lasts longer, and the confidence it provides is immediate.

Bespoke vs. Made-to-Measure vs. Off-the-Rack

What is the difference between bespoke and made-to-measure?

Bespoke tailoring creates a unique pattern from scratch for each client based on 34+ individual measurements. Made-to-measure starts with an existing pattern and adjusts it to your measurements. The result is a more precisely fitted garment that accounts for your posture, asymmetries, and body characteristics in ways that made-to-measure cannot replicate.

What is the difference between a suit and a tuxedo?

A tuxedo is distinguished from a suit by satin or grosgrain lapel facings, a satin stripe on the trouser legs, and the absence of belt loops (worn with suspenders or side adjustors). Tuxedos are reserved for formal evening events with a black tie dress code, while suits are appropriate for business, daytime events, and most social occasions.

What is full canvas construction and why does it matter?

Full canvas construction uses a layer of natural canvas (typically horsehair and cotton) between the suit's outer fabric and lining. This canvas molds to your body over time, creating a natural drape that fused suits cannot achieve. Full canvas suits breathe better, last longer, and improve with age. It is the gold standard of suit construction and the common construction method we use at Bespoke By CB.

Fabrics & Materials

What fabrics work best for custom suits in Miami's heat?

For Miami's warm climate, we recommend tropical-weight wool (7–9 ounces), linen, linen-cotton blends, and lightweight cotton. Mills like Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, and Drago produce exceptional warm-weather fabrics that breathe while maintaining structure. We source fabrics from all over the world and have options if you are traveling or live in different climates.

What fabric mills does Bespoke By CB work with?

We source fabrics from the world's most prestigious mills including Scabal, Dormeuil, Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Drago, Marzoni, Ariston, Holland & Sherry, Gladson, and Reda. Each mill is curated by Christian Boehm based on their rich history and fabric quality.

Fittings & Process

What should I wear to my first consultation?

No dress code is required. If you have a suit you like the fit of, bring it. The shoes you plan to wear with your garments are also helpful as a reference. Learn more about your first visit.

Do you come to my home or office?

Yes. Bespoke By CB offers in-home and in-office consultations throughout Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. Christian Boehm brings fabric swatches, measurement tools, and style guides directly to you.

How do I care for a custom suit?

Always hang your suit on a proper wooden hanger that supports the shoulders. Brush it after each wear. We recommend not dry cleaning after every wear. Let the suit rest for 24–48 hours between wears. Store in a breathable garment bag — never plastic.
